Even before we knew another baby was on the way, we always wanted Adam and Lake to eventually share a room. They are the best of friends and we know they will love living together in this space. They are on the same sleep schedule, so bedtime routines already happen together and at the same time. Adam has been waking up a lot at night at home, wandering into our room to say hi, to get one more kiss, or asking for help getting “comfy cozy.” We are hoping he feels a little less lonely and a little more comfortable having his baby sister sleeping right there with him. And we know Lake will love going to bed in the same place as her big brother.
Our first step in creating this new shared space was finding the right bunk bed. So for the past 9 months we’ve researched and gone to a million different stores looking at a million different options. Bunk beds come in so many shapes, sizes, and configurations. We decided on the Perch bunk bed by Oeuf and we couldn’t be more excited. Oeuf has an amazing reputation for sturdy, well designed furniture for babies and toddlers. And it’s gorgeous of course. We ordered the bed from Fawn Shoppe because they have impeccable customer service and were so helpful with all of our questions. So now it’s time to design the rest of the room!
We always read books on Adam’s giant overstuffed couch, which we will no longer have room for. So we are hoping to make the bottom bunk suitable as a lounging space as well, which means lots of extra comfy pillows and throws. His big, bulky distressed wood bookshelf will have to go as well, so we will need storage for the piles and piles of books we have amassed over the years. I think they are both ready to have a play/craft table in their room so we are looking for a kids table and two chairs suitable for coloring, reading, and lego building. And of course we need gender neutral personal touches like a rug, storage bins, and maybe even an accent wall of wallpaper. I’m in major nesting stage and I always love a new project so I’m excited to get started! Here is my mood board that I’m using for design inspiration. The room itself is small so our design goal is clean and minimalist, which a touch of whimsey in the details. Follow along here and on Instagram to watch this space come to life!
